SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 72
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Jack Smith, who recently retired as chairman of the
Falls County Republican Party after 27 years of outstanding
service; and
WHEREAS, Jack Smith has always possessed a keen interest
in politics; in 1978, he ran for the state legislature, a
pioneering Republican Party candidate; and
WHEREAS, A notable businessman, Jack owns and operates
WordSmith Advertising in Waco; he previously owned a candle
factory and worked as a reporter for KWTX Television for two
years and as cohost of "PM Magazine" for two years; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, he started the Silver Microphone Awards,
a national competition for radio commercials; he currently
writes "Random Thoughts While Driving in Waco," a monthly humor
column for the Wacoan magazine; and
WHEREAS, Jack Smith has long held the respect of many in
the community for his astute and dedicated leadership of the
Falls County Republican Party; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Jack Smith for his dedicated
service with the Falls County Republican Party and extend to him
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
