SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 76
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Rotarians of District 5730, on the occasion
of their celebration of the 100th anniversary of Rotary
International; and
WHEREAS, District 5730 has 54 Rotary clubs in Amarillo,
Lubbock, Plainview, Odessa, Midland, Big Spring, and several
smaller cities; district members will celebrate the Rotary
International centennial on February 23, 2005, in the Amarillo
Civic Center; and
WHEREAS, Since the first Rotary Club was founded 100 years
ago by a young attorney in Chicago, Paul Harris, the mission of
Rotarians has expanded far beyond serving the professional and
social interests of its members; today, more than one million men
and women belong to 31,936 clubs in 166 countries around the
globe, and they have made significant contributions to creating
a better world; and
WHEREAS, The Rotary International motto is "Service Above
Self," and its members are encouraged to participate in projects
that promote health, literacy, peace, and understanding; and
WHEREAS, Rotarians in District 5730 have embraced the
spirit, enthusiasm, and principles of Rotary International and
are currently working on numerous projects that include
sponsoring a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp and a Rotary
Diabetic Camp for boys and girls, clubs for high school and
college students, scholarships, and literacy projects; their
international projects include providing food, medicines, and
school supplies to Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International is an exemplary
organization, and it is indeed appropriate that the clubs of
District 5730 be recognized on this momentous occasion; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the Rotarians of District 5730
for their many good works and extend to Rotarians around the
world best wishes for an enjoyable centennial celebration; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
District 5730 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
