SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 83
In Memory
of
Lawrence J. Petersen
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Danevang in mourning the loss of Lawrence J. Petersen, who
died January 31, 2005, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Petersen was born in Danevang on
February 13, 1931, to Verner A. Petersen and Louise Olson Petersen;
he earned a degree in agricultural engineering from Texas A&I
University and served in the United States Army during the Korean
Conflict; and
WHEREAS, He was a trustee on the board of directors of
Wharton County Junior College and had served as chairman of the
board for six years; and
WHEREAS, He served on the board of directors of Cotton,
Incorporated, for 20 years; he also helped start South Texas
Cotton and Grain Association and served as its president; he was
a past president of Texas Pest Management; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Lawrence was a former Sunday
school teacher at the First Baptist Church; a highly respected
businessman and a distinguished gentleman, he gave generously of
his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Petersen was a devoted husband, father,
and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be
treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Lawrence J. Petersen: his wife,
Gloria McDonald Petersen; his daughters and sons-in-law,
Pamela and J. Paul Pope and Laurie and Jimmy Martin; his son
and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Andrea Petersen; his brother,
Ralph Petersen; and his seven grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Lawrence Petersen.
