SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 97
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Fire Chief C.T. "Tommy" Anderson of Santa Fe, Texas,
for coming to the rescue of Smokey, a horse who was caught in a
tree; and
WHEREAS, In the early morning of January 19, 2005,
Chief Anderson responded to an emergency call to rescue the
three-year-old, 1,000-pound gelding; and
WHEREAS, Under Tommy Anderson's leadership, firefighters,
emergency medical teams, a veterinarian, the rescue group
Habitat for Horses, and a neighbor worked for more than two
hours, using a forklift and chainsaws to release Smokey; in order
to lift Smokey up, the rescue crew rigged up a sling with a fire
hose and wrapped it around the horse's body; and
WHEREAS, Chief Anderson deserves recognition for his
expertise in handling this most unusual case and for organizing a
team of skilled and caring people to assist in the rescue of
Smokey; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Fire Chief C.T. Anderson for his
dedication to his work and his leadership in rescuing Smokey from
a precarious situation; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Fire Chief Anderson as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
