SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 100
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the executives and managers of American Eagle Outfitters on the occasion of the company's biannual meeting, which is being held in San Antonio on February 7, 2005; and WHEREAS, American Eagle Outfitters is a leading retailer that designs, markets, and sells its own brand of casual clothing for young people; the company currently has 777 stores in 49 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, as well as 69 stores in Canada; and WHEREAS, The company opened its first store in 1977 in Novi, Michigan, and began operating as a public company in 1995; in 1999, American Eagle Outfitters was named Fortune magazine's 16th Fastest Growing Company; while the company has grown, it has also given back to the communities in which it does business; and WHEREAS, The American Eagle Foundation raises funds and enlists volunteers for projects that improve the quality of life for its employees and customers; a large part of its mission to give back to the community involves funding programs for teenagers and college students; and WHEREAS, Since 1998, the American Eagle Foundation has supported Jumpstart, a national nonprofit organization that provides a mentoring program through which college students serve as AmeriCorps members and work with preschool children in Head Start and other early learning programs; and WHEREAS, In addition to its support of Jumpstart, the foundation began a second national program in 2003 to help create free, public, quality spaces for skateboarding, skating, and biking; the foundation also supports drug-free events and provides grants to worthy public charities; and WHEREAS, American Eagle Outfitters has proved to be a good corporate citizen in the State of Texas, and the generosity the company has shown through its foundation is truly commendable; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend the executives and managers of American Eagle Outfitters for their many accomplishments in their business endeavors and the good work they do on behalf of the communities they serve; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
