SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 109
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the members of the Troup High School Tigers football
team, who have had an outstanding season and advanced to the
2004 University Interscholastic League Class 2A Division II
state finals; and
WHEREAS, The Tigers eliminated Omaha Pewitt in the
quarterfinal game to become Region III champions; advancing to
the state tournament for the first time in 31 years, the Troup Tigers
faced Lexington, the Region IV champions, in a semifinal game
that matched two strong teams that each had a 13-1 record; and
WHEREAS, The Tigers scored a 42-13 victory over Lexington
in the semifinals and advanced to the state championship game, an
impressive achievement that will long be remembered in the town
of Troup; although that game ended in a loss for Troup, the Tigers
can take pride in their outstanding season record of 14-2 and in
having brought their school to the state championship game for
the first time in over three decades; and
WHEREAS, With the support of the entire community and the
guidance of head coach Andy Griffin and his staff, the Tigers
played exceptionally well throughout the season; their hard work
and discipline, their winning attitude, and their commitment to
the ideals of sportsmanship have brought honor to their school
and their community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Troup High School Tigers
on advancing to the Class 2A Division II state championship game
and on their excellent performance this season; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
