SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 112
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Lunar New Year Festival, which is being held on
February 12, 2005, at the Chinese Community Center in Houston;
and
WHEREAS, It is the year 4703 on the Lunar Calendar and time
to welcome the Year of the Rooster; the ancient calendar is a
combination solar/lunar calendar, and the Lunar New Year falls
on the second new moon after the winter solstice; and
WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year Festival, also known as the
Spring Festival, is an opportunity for citizens in the community
to experience Asian ethnic food and entertainment and martial
arts demonstrations; and
WHEREAS, Chinese exhibitions will include arts and crafts,
Asian paintings, calligraphy, origami, pottery, and shadow
puppetry; the children's theater will feature a daylong talent
show presented by students from the Chinese school; and
WHEREAS, Proceeds from the sale of Rooster commemorative
items will go directly to tsunami relief charities; and
WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year Festival provides entertainment
for the whole family and an opportunity to learn more about Asian
culture and traditions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend all those involved with the
Lunar New Year Festival and extend best wishes to them for a
successful event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of the Lunar New Year Festival.
