SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 118
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Gerald and Stanlee Rubin, who were recently named the 2004 El Pasoans of the Year by El Paso, Incorporated; and WHEREAS, Jerry and Stanlee Rubin were honored for their many years of dedication to the City of El Paso and to more than 400 nonprofit organizations and worthy causes; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rubin serves as chairman of the board, president, and chief executive officer of Helen of Troy Limited, a company he and his wife, Stanlee, established; Mrs. Rubin serves as a member of the company's board; and WHEREAS, The Sun Bowl, Congregation B'nai Zion, the Children's Miracle Network, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and numerous charities and cultural groups in the city have all been the beneficiaries of the couple's deep generosity; and WHEREAS, The fruits of their efforts on behalf of their alma mater, The University of Texas at El Paso, include the new state-of-the-art Helen of Troy Softball Complex and the recently dedicated Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Rubin have contributed greatly to the quality of life in the City of El Paso, and they deserve recognition for their countless philanthropic endeavors and their outstanding community leadership; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby congratulate Gerald and Stanlee Rubin on receiving the title of 2004 El Pasoans of the Year and extend to them deepest gratitude for their invaluable work on behalf of their city and state; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this distinguished couple as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
