SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 172
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
in recognizing Minorities for Equality in Employment, Education,
Liberty and Justice, Incorporated, on the occasion of its official
public opening; and
WHEREAS, As its formal opening, the organization is hosting
its First Annual Winter Extravaganza on February 25, 2005; the
event will feature illustrious keynote speaker Congresswoman
Maxine Waters; and
WHEREAS, Congresswoman Waters is well known for her support
of the goals of this organization; her programs, such as Youth
Fair Chance and Project Build, help young people to learn job and
life skills and can offer valuable guidance on building other
effective programs; and
WHEREAS, The goal of this organization is to help at-risk
young people and formerly incarcerated persons to become
self-sufficient, responsible members of their communities; and
WHEREAS, In addition to its valuable educational work, the
organization supports legislation and policies that encourage
disenfranchised young people and offers young people who have
committed a crime the opportunity to reestablish their lives; and
WHEREAS, Work of this importance requires dedication,
patience, and boundless energy, and the founder and executive
director of Minorities for Equality in Employment, Education,
Liberty and Justice, Incorporated, Latreese Cooke, is fortunate
to have these outstanding staff members: Pamela Pleasant,
Cerrissa Bates, Donald Jenkins, K-Lee Starland, and Cheryl Russell;
and
WHEREAS, Believing that everyone deserves a second chance
in life, this organization acts on that creed by offering
education, counseling, and many other services, and all
associated with the organization deserve recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby congratulate Minorities for Equality in
Employment, Education, Liberty and Justice, Incorporated, on the
occasion of its First Annual Winter Extravaganza; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
