SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 180
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Lieutenant Colonel Michael Fossum, who is receiving
the 2005 Rio Grande Council Good Scout Award for exemplifying the
values of the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Fossum is a United States Air Force
reserve officer assigned to the F-16 Fighting Falcon system
program and one of the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) astronauts who will fly on space shuttle
mission STS-121 planned for November, 2005; a 1980 graduate of
The Texas A&M University, he has worked as capsule communicator
for NASA for 11 years; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America prepares young people to
make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling
in them the values of the scout oath and law; and
WHEREAS, The Good Scout Award recognizes men who were good
role models as Boy Scouts and continue to be as adults and who
have made significant contributions to their country and to the
State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Michael Fossum lives his life according to the
Boy Scout ideals, and his career will serve as an inspiration to
young people today; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Lieutenant Colonel Michael Fossum
for his outstanding accomplishments and extend to him
congratulations on earning the Good Scout Award; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Lieutenant Colonel Fossum as an expression of high regard from
the Texas Senate.
