SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 184
In Memory
of
Paul Christopher Alaniz
WHEREAS, The Texas Senate honors and commemorates the life
of Marine Captain Paul Christopher "Chris" Alaniz, who died
January 26, 2005, at the age of 32; and
WHEREAS, Chris was on his second tour of duty in Iraq and
was one of two pilots on a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter that
crashed near Ar Rutbah; and
WHEREAS, Chris worked as a substitute teacher at
Miller High School in Corpus Christi for two years and entered
the service in June of 1996; in April, 2004, he was assigned
to the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft
Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station,
Miramar, California; and
WHEREAS, Flying was a lifelong dream for Chris, and he was
proud to serve his country; he was focused, honest, and confident
and lived by the Marine Corps' code, doing his job with honor and
respect; a man of courage and deep patriotism, he made the
ultimate sacrifice for his country; and
WHEREAS, His service awards include the Global War on
Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
Service Medal, three awards of the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon,
the National Defense Service Medal, and a Meritorious Unit
Commendation; and
WHEREAS, Chris Alaniz lived his life to the fullest and was
a devoted husband, father, and son, and he leaves behind memories
that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Paul Christopher Alaniz: his wife,
Thelma Alaniz; his 18-month-old daughter, Yvette Alaniz; his
mother, Maria Cynthia Quiroz; his sister, Yvette Musik; and his
brothers, Joseph and Mark Pizano; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
it do so in memory of Marine Captain Paul Christopher Alaniz.
