SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 196
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
congratulate San Antonio's Winston Churchill High School Band on
its selection for participation in the 2005 Tournament of Roses
Parade in Pasadena, California, on January 1; and
WHEREAS, Chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants,
the Winston Churchill High School Band was the only band from
Texas and one of only 17 bands nationwide to be invited to march
in the parade; the 275 band members spent a week in Pasadena,
where they also performed in the Electric Lights Parade at
Disneyland and Bandfest at Pasadena Community College; and
WHEREAS, The Winston Churchill High School Band would not
have had the prestigious honor of performing in the 116th
Tournament of Roses Parade had it not been for the hard work and
dedication of its members, the leadership of director Albert Lo,
assistant directors Alan Sharps and Brian Hildreth, colorguard
coordinator Mark Sloan, and drumline instructor Mike Stevens,
and the support of the Band Parent's Association and its board of
directors; and
WHEREAS, In the parade, the Winston Churchill High School
Band performed with a high level of artistic skill and
musicianship, a tribute to the many long hours spent perfecting
each note and synchronizing each step; in front of a nationwide
audience, the talented students represented the Lone Star State
with pride and dignity; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the Winston Churchill High
School Band on earning a place in this prestigious event and on
its admirable performance; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the band as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
