SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 204
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Alice Ann Nye, who has been named a distinguished
alumna of the University of North Texas; and
WHEREAS, Born in Fort Worth to Dr. and Mrs. Sam Grove,
Alice became interested in children's education in high school
when she taught gymnastics and led a Camp Fire Girl troop;
she also was an outstanding athlete and an honor student; and
WHEREAS, Alice attended North Texas State College,
which later became the University of North Texas, and earned a
bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1957; after
graduating from college, she taught in an elementary school in
an economically challenged area of Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, Alice married Erle Nye, and the couple moved to
Dallas, where Alice continued teaching in private and parochial
school; she preferred teaching first grade and acting as a
positive role model for the youngest children in elementary
schools; and
WHEREAS, Alice Nye is an active member of Highland Park
United Methodist Church and has served on the administrative
board and the pastor parish committee and as a Sunday school
teacher in the youth division and a full-time teacher in the
church's school; and
WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, Alice has been
supported by the love and companionship of her husband, Erle,
and their five children and seven grandchildren; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Alice Ann Nye for her
contributions to her community and her state and congratulate
her for being honored as a distinguished alumna of the University
of North Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
