SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 220
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
pay tribute to Tommie Rita Pilgrim Coward Borroum on the grand
occasion of her 80th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Tommie was born in Missouri, the youngest
daughter of Gladys and Bill Pilgrim, on February 28, 1925, and
a few months later, the family moved to Bardwell, Texas; she
graduated valedictorian from Bardwell High School and was a key
player on the Black Cats basketball team; and
WHEREAS, On June 16, 1956, she married Howard Bailey Coward,
who passed away in 1998; as a girl, Tommie developed a love of
nature when working in the cotton fields; after retirement at
Lake Tawakoni, she and Howard enjoyed frequent fishing trips,
and later in Corsicana, they took regular RV trips; and
WHEREAS, A talented lady, Tommie is renowned for her
cooking skills and can easily prepare a simple meal or a holiday
feast; the school clothes, cozy quilts, and baby blankets she
creates are infused with a mother's love; and
WHEREAS, Tommie's greatest vocation is that of being a
mother and homemaker; she is a proud mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Tommie was again blessed in her marriage
to Robert E. Borroum, who shares her love of nature; the couple
enjoys gardening, making regular trips to Lake Limestone, and
actively participating in the Church of Christ; and
WHEREAS, Tommie's family and friends are gathering
February 26, 2005, to share in a joyous commemoration of her
80th birthday; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby recognize Tommie Rita Pilgrim Coward Borroum
as a treasured citizen of this state and extend to her best wishes
for a wonderful birthday celebration; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as a memento of this special day.
