SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 222

	WHEREAS, Hud Hopkins has been named Airport Manager of the 
Year by the Texas Department of Transportation for his superior 
performance as manager of Scholes International Airport in 
Galveston; and
	WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Mr. Hopkins, Scholes 
International Airport has been transformed from a Federal 
Aviation Administration noncompliant facility into one of the 
outstanding airports in Texas; and
	WHEREAS, This notable professional has worked with the 
federal and state governments to ensure that Scholes airport
is in compliance with grant agreements; his successful efforts 
include reviewing and renegotiating leases and agreements, 
updating property maps, and restriping runways; and
	WHEREAS, During his distinguished tenure, Mr. Hopkins has 
overseen a host of vital improvements to taxiways, drainage 
systems, and runways; in addition, he is currently serving as 
resident project manager of the new Federal Aviation Administration
control tower being constructed on airport property; and
	WHEREAS, Hud Hopkins exemplifies the spirit of hard work, 
perseverance, and creativity that is recognized by this award, 
and it is a privilege to join with the Texas Department of 
Transportation in commending him for his notable achievements
at Scholes International Airport; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby congratulate Hud Hopkins on being named 
Airport Manager of the Year and extend to him best wishes for 
success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Hopkins as an expression of high regard from the 
Texas Senate.
