SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 257
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Altrusa International, Incorporated, of Lubbock, District Nine, on the occasion of its celebration for its Diamond Jubilee for naming a Woman of the Year; and WHEREAS, Altrusa International, Incorporated, is an organization of men and women who are dedicated to service and volunteerism; organized in 1917 during World War I, Altrusa derived its name from the first four letters of the word altruism and from USA for the United States of America; and WHEREAS, Altrusa International, Incorporated, of Lubbock was chartered in 1940, and in 1945, the club began honoring women who provided outstanding volunteer service to the Lubbock community; and WHEREAS, The Lubbock club focuses its service on literacy and sponsors five scholarships each year for senior girls in high school; funds for the scholarships are raised through the sale of the club's famous Indian tacos at the annual Arts Festival; and WHEREAS, The Lubbock chapter of Altrusa will celebrate a milestone with the naming of its 60th Woman of the Year at a banquet on March 10 at the Lubbock Women's Club, and it is an excellent occasion to pay tribute to this worthy organization; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend members of Altrusa International, Incorporated, of Lubbock, District Nine, for their valuable contributions to the Lubbock community and extend congratulations to the organization on honoring its 60th Woman of the Year; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Altrusa International, Incorporated, of Lubbock as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
