SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 270
In Memory
of
Grady Burke
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Captain Grady Burke,
who died February 19, 2005, at the age of 39; and
WHEREAS, Captain Burke died in the line of duty; a member
of the Houston Fire Department, he was battling a house fire when
the roof suddenly collapsed; he had bravely entered the blaze to
ensure that no one was trapped inside; and
WHEREAS, Born January 31, 1966, to Don and Sue Burke,
Grady was a 1984 graduate of South Houston High School and
attended the College of the Mainland Firefighting Academy in
Texas City; he married Cindy Bridges in 1992, and the couple had
three children; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his work as a firefighter,
Captain Burke was a twelve-year veteran of the Houston Fire
Department, where he served with Station 46 and had previously
served with Station 55; he was a courageous and selfless leader,
and in 2004 he had received a medal of valor for helping rescue a
trapped victim from a house fire in November, 2003; and
WHEREAS, A devoted member of the Southeast Church of Christ
in Friendswood, Grady was an integral part of the Children's
Ministry, the praise team, and the semi-annual church family
campouts; and
WHEREAS, A man of courage and dedication, Grady was a
devoted husband and father, and his warmth, his dauntless spirit,
and his valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew
him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Captain Grady Burke: his wife, Cindy; his
children, Hannah, Hailey, and Hunter; his sister, Karen Stubblefield;
his brother, Paul Burke; and his other beloved family members and
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the family of Grady Burke, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Captain Grady Burke.
