SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 272
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize internationally known attorney and civic leader
J. Michael Solar, who has been named the 2005 Pasadena Independent
School District Distinguished Alumnus; and
WHEREAS, The Distinguished Alumnus Award recognizes
graduates who have excelled in their vocation and civic endeavors
and whose integrity and standing in the community reflect
honorably on the Pasadena Independent School District; the award
will be presented to Michael at a reception hosted by the school
district's superintendent and trustees on March 3, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Michael is a 1971 graduate of Sam Rayburn High
School and the first Latino from the high school to receive this
prestigious award; he earned his undergraduate and law degrees
from the University of Houston, and he is the principal attorney
of Solar & Associates, LLP, a litigation law firm based in
Houston; and
WHEREAS, He is noted for the active role he played in the
negotiation and passage of the North American Free Trade
Agreement and for his strong sense of community through service
on many local and national boards, including serving as national
director of the Children's Defense Fund; and
WHEREAS, Among the many associations that have benefited
from his wise counsel and expertise are the Senate Hispanic
Policy Council, the Mexican American Legislative Policy Council,
the Board of Visitors of M. D. Anderson Hospital, the Catholic
Endowment Foundation, and numerous educational and financial
institutions; and
WHEREAS, A highly respected business and community leader,
Michael has made many contributions that have benefited the
City of Pasadena, the Houston community, and the State of Texas,
and he is an exemplary alumnus of the Pasadena Independent School
District; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend J. Michael Solar for his
outstanding achievements and extend to him congratulations on
receiving the Pasadena Independent School District's Distinguished
Alumnus Award; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
