SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 274
In Memory
of
Anthony Joseph Ippolito
WHEREAS, Anthony Joseph Ippolito, a Port Arthur native,
passed away on February 7, 2005, at the age of 81, leaving behind
a loving family and many friends; and
WHEREAS, Born on September 23, 1923, Tony Ippolito graduated
from Saint Mary's High School and attended Texas A&M University
before being called to serve as a member of the armed forces
during World War II; he proudly served in the Pacific Theater
with the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 and on his return
became an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the
American Legion, as well as a charter member of the World War II
Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ippolito married the love of his life, the
former Joyce Moore, after his return from duty, and they were
blessed with three children and a loving family that has grown to
include eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, Mr. Ippolito
owned and operated Ippolito's Grocery with his brother, Joe,
until it was destroyed by fire in 1950; he was later part-owner of
a Gulf Coast Baseball League franchise, the Port Arthur Seahawks,
and also owned and operated the Seahawk Drive-In; he also enjoyed
a 20-year career in the car business, working for Inman Chevrolet
in Port Arthur and Gordon Chevrolet in Port Neches; and
WHEREAS, From 1973 to 1996, Mr. Ippolito served as
Constable of Precinct 2 in Jefferson County; during those years
he was an active member of the East Texas Peace Officers
Association and served as president of the State of Texas Justice
of the Peace and Constable Association; his sincere enthusiasm
for politics led him to serve on the board of the Texas Association
of Counties in Austin for nine years; and
WHEREAS, He was a charter parishioner of Saint Joseph's
Catholic Church and a charter member and former president of
Saint Joseph's Federal Credit Union; additionally, he was
affiliated with the Evening Sertoma Club, the Texas A&M 12th Man
Foundation, and the Krewe of Aurora; and
WHEREAS, Beloved by all who knew him, Tony Ippolito lived
life on his own terms; he was a devoted husband and father and
dedicated many years of his life to serving his community, and
although his loss has left a void in the hearts of his friends
and loved ones, his spirit will live on for years to come when
they fondly remember him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, pay tribute to the life of
Anthony Joseph "Tony" Ippolito and extend deepest sympathy to the
members of his family: his wife, Joyce Ippolito; his daughters,
Madeline Nicholas and her husband, Bill, and Maureen Sanders
and her husband, Jeff; his son, John Ippolito and his wife, Gay;
his grandchildren and their spouses, Laura Stephens,
Chris and Nicole Nicholas, Scott and Jennifer Nicholas,
Kristy and Chad Wilson, Penny Ippolito, and Jessica, Jennifer,
and Jeffery Sanders; his great-grandchildren, Tyler Stephens,
Anthony Nicholas, and Karli Wilson; his stepbrothers, Sam Dolce
and Tommy Dolce; his stepsisters, Virginia Moore and
Roseanne Brocato; and to the many other relatives and friends
of this esteemed gentleman; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
this day, it do so in memory of Anthony Joseph Ippolito.
