SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 278
In Memory
of
James W. Van Burkleo, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of the Rio Grande Valley in mourning the loss of James W. "Bill" Van Burkleo, Jr., who died February 19, 2005; and WHEREAS, Born in Mercedes in 1952, Bill grew up in McAllen and graduated from McAllen High School, where he was a varsity basketball player; he also played basketball when he attended The University of Texas--Pan American and was a loyal Longhorn fan; and WHEREAS, Bill Van Burkleo was the president and chief executive officer of Van Burkleo Motors, Incorporated, in Mercedes and McAllen, and was well respected for his business and civic contributions; he served on the boards of the Better Business Bureau, Texas Automobile Dealers Association, and the National Dealer Council for Lincoln Mercury, and supported the Palmer Drug Abuse Program, the Salvation Army, the American Cancer Society, and the United Way; and WHEREAS, An enthusiastic outdoorsman, he enjoyed golfing and fishing and participated in national fishing competitions; and WHEREAS, Bill gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his faith and his family were important anchors in his life; and WHEREAS, Bill Van Burkleo was a devoted husband, father, and son, and leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of James W. Van Burkleo, Jr.: his wife, Christine Van Burkleo; his children, Brittany and Brandon Van Burkleo and Kathryn and Patrick Bason; his parents, James and Dorinda Van Burkleo; his brothers, Terry and Pat Van Burkleo; his sister, Dee Ann Payne; and his devoted nieces and nephews; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James W.
