SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 279

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Crystal Gomes on being named a National Merit Scholar 
finalist; and

	WHEREAS, The nonprofit National Merit Scholarship 
Corporation is in its 50th year of honoring and providing 
scholarships to outstanding high school students around the 
country; and

	WHEREAS, Crystal is one of only 15,165 National Merit 
Scholar finalists in the nation and one of only 1,209 in Texas; and

	WHEREAS, A highly motivated individual, Crystal's 
intellectual vigor, industriousness, and wealth of knowledge are 
assets worthy of commendation; and

	WHEREAS, This notable young woman's talents and 
accomplishments are evidence of her hard work, and she is a 
source of great pride to her family and her community; now, 
therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Crystal Gomes for earning a 
National Merit Scholarship and extend to her best wishes for 
future success; and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
