SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 280
In Memory
of
Dr. Herman Saul Wigodsky
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Dr. Herman Saul Wigodsky, 
who died January 25, 2005, at the age of 89; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wigodsky was born June 12, 1915, in
Sioux City, Iowa, and earned undergraduate degrees at Yankton 
College and the University of South Dakota; he received his 
medical degree and a doctor of philosophy degree from Northwestern
University; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wigodsky served his country in the Army Air Corps
during World War II; after the war he served on the Atomic Bomb 
Casualty Commission and the National Academy of Sciences before 
moving to San Antonio in 1950; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wigodsky dedicated his medical career to 
furthering the education of medical students; he taught for
many years at Robert B. Green and Santa Rosa Hospitals, and he 
served on the faculty of The University of Texas Health Science 
Center at San Antonio as a clinical professor and member of the 
Institutional Review Board; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wigodsky was a founding member of Hospice
San Antonio and The Majestic Foundation and served on many other 
boards dealing with health issues; he was also active in the 
Texas Educational Foundation; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wigodsky was co-owner of the Pincus Company,
a longtime clothing store in downtown San Antonio, and he was 
founder of the Downtown Owners Association; and
	WHEREAS, A man of integrity and faith, Dr. Wigodsky was a 
member of Temple Beth-El and was a past president of the Jewish 
Federation of San Antonio; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wigodsky was a devoted husband, father, and 
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 
bereaved family of Dr. Herman Saul Wigodsky:  his wife, Jo Ann; 
his sons, John and Dan; his daughter, Ann; and his three 
grandchildren; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Dr. Herman Saul Wigodsky.
