SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 306
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Given Kachepa of Colleyville, who has been named one of Texas' top two youth volunteers for 2005 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and WHEREAS, The awards, presented annually by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honor young people across America for outstanding volunteerism and community service; in 2005, more than 20,000 students nationwide were considered for the awards; and WHEREAS, A student at Grapevine High School, Given will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where he will participate in a number of events as a State Honoree; and WHEREAS, Drawing upon his own experience as a victim, Given has become an effective advocate for victims of human trafficking, and he has worked hard to educate the public about the dangers of traffickers; and WHEREAS, Given Kachepa has shown by example that he embodies the true spirit of courage and of giving back to the community, and his work will undoubtedly have a positive influence on people throughout our state and nation; and WHEREAS, Given has earned the admiration of his peers, his community, and his state, and he is truly deserving of the honor bestowed on him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Given Kachepa on his selection as a State Honoree for 2005 in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program and extend best wishes to him in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
