SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 318
In Memory
of
William Alton Willms
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Austin in mourning the loss of William Alton "Bill" Willms,
who died December 29, 2004, at the age of 56; and
WHEREAS, Bill Willms was born in Graham, Texas, on
January 30, 1948; he was an outstanding high school athlete
but turned down athletic scholarships to other colleges to attend
The University of Texas; he graduated with honors in 1973 and
earned a law degree from the university in 1979; and
WHEREAS, Bill was a prosecutor in Harris County and
Travis County before going into private practice in Austin in
1985; known for his legal acumen and his skillful mastery of
debate, he was a formidable opponent in the courtroom; and
WHEREAS, Those who knew Bill will long remember him for
his boundless intellectual curiosity and the unparalleled
intensity with which he embraced life, whether he was discussing
philosophy or racing down Ranch Road 2222 on his favorite
motorcycle; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and son, and he
leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commemorate the life of William Alton Willms
and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved family: his wife,
Cynthia Bell; his sons, Christopher and Blake; his mother,
Mary Jane Willms; his brother, James Michael; his sister,
Marianne Duquette; and his grandchildren, Corwin Alton John
and Hunter Jameson Willms; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
it do so in memory of William Alton Willms.
