SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 330
In Memory
of
Jose Guadalupe Jimenez
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Jose Guadalupe Jimenez, who died January 22, 2005, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, Jose Jimenez was born in San Antonio on February 19, 1914, and he was a 1933 graduate of Fox Tech High School; early in his life, he developed a keen interest in creating and repairing things, and his ability to repair or improve any kind of machine was well known among his family and friends; and WHEREAS, In 1936, he began working for his cousin's company, Rodriguez Brothers Memorial, where he became a skilled artisan; he devised the company's first portable carving unit and created many works that can still be seen around San Antonio; he started his own metal plating business and, along with his many other projects, repaired for free the chalices and communion plates for various San Antonio Catholic churches; and WHEREAS, In 1942, he began working at Kelly Air Force Base repairing airplanes, and he soon rose through the ranks to become supervisor of his department; while at Kelly, he was instrumental in getting the first union organized; after retiring from his 30-year civil service career, he worked as a counselor with the Help a Boy Camp; and WHEREAS, Jose married Anna Buquor in 1938 and the couple had two sons before Anna's tragic early death; in 1944, he married Esther Garza; Jose and Esther had 11 children, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November; and WHEREAS, Jose was a devout Catholic and was instrumental in establishing a chapter of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at Saint Agnes parish in 1940, and he served as its president from 1940 until 1996; a highly valued and respected citizen in the San Antonio community, Jose Jimenez will long be remembered for his loyalty and warmth, his creativity, and his endearing sense of humor; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Jose Guadalupe Jimenez: his wife, Esther Jimenez; his sons and daughters-in-law, Jose Guadalupe Jimenez, Jr., Dr. Roberto and Darlene Jimenez, Philip Jimenez, Frank Jimenez, Ernest and Elva Jimenez, John Jimenez, and Michael and Tami Jimenez; his daughters and sons-in-law, Bertha Phillips, Frances and John Robert Bland, Margaret Frei, Teresa and Richard Evans, and Esther and Jeffrey Circle; his sister, Mercedes Campbell; his brother, Arthur Jimenez; and his 31 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jose Guadalupe Jimenez.
