SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 339
In Memory
of
Whitt Franklin Johnson
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of
Whitt Franklin Johnson, who passed away on February 22, 2005, at
the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, Born on January 12, 1911, in Childress, Mr. Johnson
bravely served his country in World War II as a member of the
United States Army Air Corps; and
WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, he and his
wife, Fae Marie, moved to West University Place, a community that
would benefit tremendously from his leadership; city manager for
31 years, he later served as mayor, in which position he worked to
provide city employees a monthly annuity, as well as other benefits
after retirement; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson gave of his time and talents to a host
of notable organizations; active with Masonic Lodge Number 1292,
a charter member of the West University Rotary Club, and a founding
member of the West University Historical Society, he also served
the Texas Municipal Retirement System Board as a trustee for
24 years and the West University United Methodist Church as a
former chairman of the board and member of the Fidelis class; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his dedication to the city he was
proud to call home, this dynamic Texan was recognized with the
naming of a park in his honor; and
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Whitt Johnson
will long remember his zest for life, his winning personality,
and his love of family and community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby pay special tribute to the life of
Whitt Franklin Johnson and extend deepest sympathy to the members
of his family: his wife of 69 years, Fae Marie McBride Johnson;
his daughters, Kay Ann Bednarski and her husband, Fred, and
Judy Embrey; his grandchildren, Katie Walmsley and her husband,
Robert, Freddie Bednarski and his wife, Samantha, Kristina West
and her husband, Barry, Elizabeth Massengale and her husband,
Jake, and Ty and Doak Embrey; his eight great-grandchildren; and
to the other family members and many friends of this fine man;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
this day, it do so in memory of Whitt Franklin Johnson.
