SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 341
WHEREAS, March 13, 2005, is indeed a memorable day for the Honorable Tom Price, judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, as it marks this respected jurist's 60th birthday and provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on his distinguished career; and WHEREAS, A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Tom Price moved to Texas in 1957, and he attended Highland Park High School before serving in the United States Marine Corps; and WHEREAS, On his return to civilian life, Judge Price worked his way through East Texas State University and went on to graduate from Baylor University School of Law in 1970; and WHEREAS, After four years in private practice, he was elected judge of Dallas County Criminal Court Number 5 for the first of three consecutive terms, and the high esteem in which he was held by his colleagues was evident when they elected him presiding judge; and WHEREAS, Judge Price continued his career as judge of the 282nd Criminal District Court in 1986 and was reelected to two additional terms; in 1991 his fellow jurists elected him presiding judge of the criminal district courts, a position he held throughout his tenure on the district bench; and WHEREAS, His accomplishments as presiding judge are too numerous to list comprehensively but include computerizing the case filing system for all county criminal courts and upgrading and expanding the public defender system; and WHEREAS, Judge Price was also instrumental in the creation of the felony child abuse court, drug diversion court, and family violence court; moreover, this esteemed public servant chaired the Community Justice Council Committee from 1991 to 1996; and WHEREAS, With his 1996 election to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Judge Price became only the third person from Dallas ever chosen to serve in that capacity; his current post has called on him to serve informally as an unofficial goodwill ambassador to Mexico, contributing to greater understanding among the judiciary of both countries; and WHEREAS, Throughout his career, he has enjoyed the love and support of his family, including his children, Jan and Brian, and his grandchildren, Mandy and Natalie; and WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Judge Tom Price has served the citizens of this state with integrity and distinction, and it is most appropriate to honor him for his many achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Honorable Tom Price on the notable occasion of his 60th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Judge Price as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
