SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
In Memory
of
William Smith Cloud, Sr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Galena Park in mourning the loss of William Smith Cloud, Sr., who died January 16, 2005, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, Bill Cloud was born on November 12, 1922, in Wilmington, Delaware, and moved to Galena Park in 1930; he was a 1941 graduate of Galena Park High School, where he played football for the Fighting Yellow Jackets, as did his four sons who followed him; and WHEREAS, During World War II, he served in the United States Air Force as a B-29 bomber turret gunner in the Pacific theater of operations; and WHEREAS, Following his military service, Bill worked as a pipe fitter for 50 years and served his community as an assistant fire chief for the Galena Park Volunteer Fire Department; he was also a past commander of the Galena Park American Legion; and WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Bill was a beloved member of the Galena Park United Methodist Church and a past chairman of the church's finance committee; and WHEREAS, Bill Cloud was a respected and admired member of the Galena Park community, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will be deeply missed; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of William Smith Cloud, Sr.: his wife of 58 years, Robbie Craddock Cloud; his sons and daughters-in-law, Tony Cloud and his wife, Karen, and Steve Cloud and his wife, Ann; his sister, Hattie Gillespie; and his grandchildren and their families; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William Smith Cloud, Sr. Gallegos ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on March 9, 2005, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
