SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 357
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize John Heard of San Antonio, who has been named one of Texas' top youth volunteers for 2005 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and WHEREAS, Prudential Financial, in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, presents the awards annually to honor young people across America for outstanding volunteerism and community service; in 2005, more than 20,000 students nationwide were considered for the awards; and WHEREAS, A junior at Saint Mary's Hall, John will receive a bronze medallion for qualifying as a Distinguished Finalist in the 10th year of the awards program; he is being honored for rebuilding 16 computers and distributing them to community groups that could make them available to low-income people; and WHEREAS, John Heard has shown by example that he embodies the true spirit of giving to the community, and he will undoubtedly have a positive influence on the lives of those who receive his computers; and WHEREAS, John has earned the admiration of his peers, his community, and his state, and he is truly deserving of the honor bestowed on him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to John Heard for his selection as one of our state's Distinguished Finalists in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program and extend best wishes to him in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
