SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 364
In Memory
of
Milton Pettis, Sr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Milton Pettis, Sr., who died February 18, 2005, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, Born July 24, 1914, in Nacogdoches to Fannie Coleman and Barry Pettis, Milton moved at an early age with his family to Denison; there he met Gladys Conita Libby Green, and they were married December 20, 1933; and WHEREAS, He worked for the railroad in Denison for many years and at Dal-Tex Optical Company for over 15 years; in 1967, he began working for American Airlines and never missed a day of work until his retirement in 1985; and WHEREAS, A hard-working, self-taught man, Milton Pettis served in many capacities in the Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church, including as treasurer, Sabbath school teacher, and deacon; he was ordained as an elder in Corsicana, and served as an honorary Elder in the Dallas Fellowship Seventh-day Adventist Church until the time of his death; and WHEREAS, Milton was a generous and charitable man, often giving money and Bibles to needy families; in 2001, he was cited in the Adventist publication The Record for his preparation and donation of 25 Thanksgiving baskets to disadvantaged families; and WHEREAS, Milton Pettis enriched the lives of all who knew him with his love and compassion, and his wisdom, warmth, and understanding will be remembered by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Milton Pettis, Sr.: his son and daughter-in-law, Milton Pettis, Jr., and Til; his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Ralph Prince, and Dr. Janice Ingram and Dr. Jesse Ingram; and his ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of the Pettis family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Milton Pettis, Sr. West ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on March 14, 2005, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
