SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 371

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Nicole Hanson of Houston, who has been named one of 
Texas' top youth volunteers for 2005 by the Prudential Spirit
of Community Awards program; and
	WHEREAS, Prudential Financial, in partnership with the 
National Association of Secondary School Principals, presents 
the awards annually to honor young people across America for 
outstanding volunteerism and community service; in 2005, more than
20,000 students nationwide were considered for the awards; and
	WHEREAS, A senior at Hidden Dell Academy, Nicole will 
receive a bronze medallion for qualifying as a Distinguished 
Finalist in the 10th year of the awards program; she is being 
honored for producing more than 2,000 child identification kits 
to help parents in her community keep accurate DNA and 
fingerprint files on their children in case they disappear; she 
also helped raise money for the Laura Recovery Center; and
	WHEREAS, Nicole Hanson has shown by example that she embodies
the true spirit of giving to the community, and her work will 
undoubtedly be a source of comfort to area parents and children; and
	WHEREAS, Nicole has earned the admiration of her peers, her 
community, and her state, and she is truly deserving of the honor 
bestowed on her; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Nicole Hanson 
for her selection as one of our state's Distinguished Finalists 
in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program and extend 
best wishes to her in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
this exemplary young lady as an expression of high regard from 
the Texas Senate.
