SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 372
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
congratulate Helen Crowder, who has been selected as the
recipient of the 2005 Gus Groos Humanitarian Award by the
La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, A longtime La Porte resident, Helen has been
active in all aspects of community life; she has worked
tirelessly on behalf of La Porte area schools and churches and
has led numerous philanthropic causes; she quietly gives of her
time, energy, and funds wherever a need exists; and
WHEREAS, Helen serves on the board of La Porte Neighborhood
Center, Incorporated, and on the boards of the Pasadena office of
the Salvation Army and the Lou Lawler Seafarers' Center; her role
as president and director of the Helen and Bill Crowder
Foundation is the central focus of her many philanthropic
activities; and
WHEREAS, Under her direction, the foundation has supported
Boys and Girls Harbor, the La Porte Habitat for Humanity, the
La Porte Bay Area Heritage Society, the Sonja Angelo Theater, the
Saint John's After School Program, Project Graduation, and many
other worthy causes; and
WHEREAS, Her dedication and generosity have worked to the
betterment of her community, and she is truly a source of
strength to area citizens and an inspiration to all who know her;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Helen Crowder for her
exceptional leadership and her many contributions to the
La Porte-Bayshore community; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
