SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 387
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to extend a warm welcome to the Feuerwehrkapelle Wolf of Wolf, Germany, on March 25, 2005, during their visit to the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, The Feuerwehrkapelle Wolf, begun in 1928, has a long and illustrious history as one of Germany's foremost volunteer firefighters' bands; it was formed in 1928 in Wolf, a city on the Weser River, by a group of dedicated musicians who were members of the volunteer fire department; and WHEREAS, The band was suspended during World War II and did not regroup until 1953, when Fire Chief Oskar Lorer brought together 15 musicians and asked music teacher Willi Papendorf to lead and teach them; the band once again played throughout the area, including Sunday mornings when the trumpeters would sound a signal for the beginning of training for the Wolf firefighters; and WHEREAS, In the ensuing years, as the band continued to flourish, it developed bonds of friendship and goodwill with other bands across Germany; the bands played at each other's festivals and celebrations and also gathered for joint concerts; and WHEREAS, Under current director Leo Schiffels, Feuerwehrkapelle Wolf has instituted a training program at the local music school to attract, educate, and motivate younger musicians to lead the band into the new millennium; and WHEREAS, The Austin Sängerrunde and the Chorgemeinschaft Texas, an association of German American choirs in Texas, have cooperated to bring this outstanding band to Texas, and the band will be hosted throughout its tour by German American choruses in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Austin; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby welcome Feuerwehrkapelle Wolf to the State Capitol and extend to them warm wishes for an enjoyable visit to Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the band as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
