SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 390
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to Morris Shapiro on the joyous occasion of his 80th birthday on March 12, 2005; and WHEREAS, Morris Shapiro was born March 12, 1925, in Coleman, Texas; he graduated from San Saba High School and attended The University of Texas; he married Elaine Novy in 1947, and he and Elaine raised their four sons, Robert, Ira, Mike, and Jay, in Austin; and WHEREAS, Morris has had a highly successful career in business; he has served as president of Austin Pipe & Supply Company, 300 Medina Corporation, Producers Utilities, and Trans Tex Irrigation; he has also served as vice president of Austin Metal & Iron Company and as chief executive officer of Mazel Oil & Gas Company; and WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, he has been an active leader in the Austin community; he was a charter member of the West Austin Optimist Club and served on the first Human Relations Commission of the City of Austin; he is a past director of Laguna Gloria Art Museum, and he has been active in Agudas Achim and Beth El congregations; and WHEREAS, Beloved and respected by his family and community, Morris Shapiro is an exemplary gentleman, and it is appropriate that he be recognized for his many contributions to his city and state on the grand occasion of his 80th birthday; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby recognize Morris Shapiro as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to him best wishes on his 80th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
