SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 406
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize Janet Louise Willis Thomas for being named a
Silver Star Honoree by the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of the
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, for 25 years of
dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, Janet was initiated into Alpha Xi Omega Chapter
in 1980; she earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in
education from Prairie View A&M University; and
WHEREAS, Janet has served on many sorority committees,
including Founders' Day, Encounters, and Historically Black Colleges
and Universities; while she held the office of assistant secretary,
she designed the financial report form and sign-in roster, both
of which are still used; and
WHEREAS, Following the Alpha Kappa Alpha creed of
self-fulfillment through voluntary service, Janet is a life
member of the National and Local Alliance of Black School Educators
and the Girl Scouts of America and a member of The African American
Education Archives and History Program; and
WHEREAS, Janet joined the Gold Star Honorees and other
Silver Star Honorees at the Founders' Day Luncheon held
February 19, 2005; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby congratulate Janet Louise Willis Thomas
for being honored as a Silver Star Honoree of the Alpha Xi Omega
Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
