SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 410
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the citizens of Gainesville in recognizing March 10, 2005,
as Gainesville Day at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1873, Gainesville was synonymous
with cattle and prosperity in its early days when cattlemen from
North Texas and the Panhandle used the city as their base of
operations; and
WHEREAS, Gainesville is situated in Cooke County, and its
rich history is reflected in its museums and Victorian
architecture; the vibrant culture of the area is celebrated at
the Germanfest in Muenster, the Oktoberfest in Lindsay, and
Depot Days in Gainesville; and
WHEREAS, Gainesville has been designated as Texas' only
Medal of Honor Host City, honoring Americans who have received
the Congressional Medal of Honor; and
WHEREAS, Known for its community spirit and involved
citizens, Gainesville offers unlimited opportunity while
maintaining the friendliness and charm of small town life;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Gainesville
for their many contributions to the state and welcome them
to the State Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as a memento of this special occasion.
