SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 414
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to the members and president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and to recognize
March 22, 2005, as Ladies Auxiliary VFW Day in Texas; and
WHEREAS, From March 22 through March 24, 2005, the
Texas Ladies Auxiliary VFW will be host to JoAnne M. Ott of
North Lawrence, Ohio, the national president of the Ladies Auxiliary
to the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Ott has chosen the title of "Symphony of Service"
for the 2004-2005 theme of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans
of Foreign Wars, emphasizing the harmony of service the ladies
provide for veterans; Mrs. Ott has served in many positions with the
organization and was elected national president on August 20, 2004;
and
WHEREAS, As the battle against terrorism continued around
the world over the past year, members of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW
donated hundreds of items and $9,000 to ship 421 care packages
from its national headquarters to troops in Iraq, Afghanistan,
and Kuwait; and
WHEREAS, The program to send care packages to our military
personnel is typical of the services offered by the Ladies
Auxiliary VFW since 1914; over the years, members of the
organization have generously donated their time and energy to
ensure that America's veterans will not be forgotten and that
those who need assistance will be taken care of; and
WHEREAS, The 634,404 members in 5,818 auxiliaries in the
United States and Guam raise funds for cancer research, assist
homeless veterans, provide books for children of military
families, offer scholarships to youths, and provide many other
services in communities nationwide; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Ladies
Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
for the valuable work they do on behalf of our military veterans
and extend best wishes to the president and all members of the
organization on the occasion of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Day in Texas;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the organization as an expression of high regard from the
Texas Senate.
