SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 418

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes 
the members of the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement 
Systems on the occasion of their 16th annual TEXPERS Conference, 
which is being held March 20 through 23, 2005; and

	WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Public Employee 
Retirement Systems is an effective statewide organization 
created with the purpose of protecting the rights of the public 
employees of Texas, as well as the quality and strength of public 
pension systems; and

	WHEREAS, Since it was chartered, the Texas Association of 
Public Employee Retirement Systems has provided forums for 
discussing state and national legislative issues that affect Texas 
pension systems; it has also supplied important information on 
retirement system administration, benefit designs, and federal 
programs; and

	WHEREAS, A voluntary, high-quality, nonprofit educational 
association, it has assumed the tasks of improving the management 
and administration of Texas public retirement systems and of 
helping to ensure their actuarial integrity; and

	WHEREAS, The organization, which has grown extensively in 
the last decade, has established the strongest collective body in 
the State of Texas and is dedicated to addressing the concerns of 
public employee retirement systems throughout the state; and

	WHEREAS, Many of the members of the nation's outstanding 
firms that provide professional services to public pension funds 
are also members of the Texas Association of Public Employee 
Retirement Systems; these associate memberships include 
actuaries, consultants, custodians, law firms, money managers, 
and real estate advisors; and

	WHEREAS, The annual conferences provide excellent 
opportunities for the association to reiterate its intention to 
develop communication between diverse parties interested in 
public retirement plans and to protect the rights of public 
pension systems and the employees they cover; and

	WHEREAS, The 16th annual conference agenda includes key 
speakers and panel discussions addressing pension system issues; 
the conference also includes a "Day at the Capitol" which 
provides the opportunity for discussions between the 
association's members and legislators; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Association of Public 
Employee Retirement Systems for its informative and productive 
conferences and extend best wishes to its members on the occasion 
of the 16th annual TEXPERS Conference; and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems as an 
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
