SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 443
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Live Oak County in recognizing March 23, 2005, as Live Oak County Day at the Capitol; and WHEREAS, Established in 1856, Live Oak County is located midway between San Antonio and Corpus Christi; crossed by three major highways, the county is known as the "Crossroads of South Texas"; and and WHEREAS, In Live Oak County, oil and gas production and farming and ranching play a significant role in the local economy; and WHEREAS, Live Oak County is the birthplace of J. Frank Dobie, noted author, folklorist and storyteller, and storytelling remains an admired pastime; the town of George West is the "Storytelling Capital of Texas" and has a Storyfest every November; and WHEREAS, Recreation and outdoor sports are a large part of the fabric of life in Live Oak County; Choke Canyon Reservoir and Lake Corpus Christi provide numerous recreational opportunities; and WHEREAS, The county hosts an annual county fair, and Three Rivers, located at the convergence of the Nueces, Frio and Atascosa Rivers, hosts a Salsa Fest every first weekend in April; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Live Oak County for their many contributions to our state and welcome them to the Capitol in celebration of Live Oak County Day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
