SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 469
In Memory
of
Fred G. Wright
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Bastrop in mourning the loss of Fred G. Wright, who died
January 31, 2005, at the age of 89; and
WHEREAS, Fred was born May 15, 1915, in Farmersville to
Dr. James B. Wright and Mary Minerva Glass Wright; he moved with
his family to Red Rock when he was 13 years old and he graduated
from Bastrop High School; and
WHEREAS, He graduated from Texas A&M University, where he
lettered in track and football; he worked for Humble Oil Company
after graduation; and
WHEREAS, Fred Wright served in the United States Navy on a
destroyer in the Pacific Fleet during World War II and saw action
from the Marshall Islands to Okinawa; he married Esther Peterson
June 24, 1940; and
WHEREAS, Fred was a member of First United Methodist Church
in Bastrop, where he occasionally served as lay speaker; and
WHEREAS, He was active in his community with memberships in
the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and the American
Legion; he was also a member of the Bastrop Senior Golf
Association; and
WHEREAS, Fred Wright was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Fred G. Wright: his wife of 64 years,
Esther Peterson Wright; his brother, M. F. "Tex" Wright; and his
four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Fred G. Wright.
