SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 491
In Memory
of
Billy Hearn Reeves
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin and Hays County in mourning the loss of Billy Hearn Reeves, who died January 21, 2005, at the age of 62; and WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Billy was born in Austin April 24, 1942, to Willie C. and Minnie Lee Reeves; he was raised in Austin and graduated from McCallum High School in 1961; and WHEREAS, Billy Reeves moved to Hays County in 1974 and was elected Constable of Precinct 5 in Buda in 1980; after being reelected five times, he retired in 2004; and WHEREAS, He was certified as a Master Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education; he was a life member of the Central Texas Justices of the Peace and Constables Association and the Texas Justices of the Peace and Constables Association and served as president of both organizations; he also served as president of the Hays County Criminal Justice Association and president of the board of Northeast Hays County Volunteer Emergency Medical Services; and WHEREAS, A longtime member of the Buda Lions Club, he was involved with many community activities and school programs in the Buda area; his commendations for outstanding service in the community include the Lyndon Baines Johnson Distinguished Service Award from the Hays County Democratic Party and the Community Builder Award from the Buda Masonic Lodge; he was named Constable of the Year by the Central Texas Justices of the Peace and Constables Association and was presented the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award by the organization; and WHEREAS, A highly respected gentleman and admired leader in the community, Billy lived an exemplary life of service and achievement, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will long be remembered by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Billy Hearn Reeves: his wife of 45 years, Linda Susan Rhea Reeves; his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark L. and Kathy Reeves and Jeffrey C. and Alice Reeves; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan K. and Glen Boatright; his brother, Jack D. Reeves; his sister, Roxie Ann Hays; and his eight grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Billy Hearn Reeves.
