SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 505
In Memory
of
Dorothy Lehr Legan
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Dorothy Lehr "Dot" Legan,
who died March 7, 2005, at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Lehr was born in San Antonio on
August 31, 1921, to John Lehr, Sr., and Frieda Richter Lehr; she
graduated from Incarnate Word High School; and
WHEREAS, While a high school student, Dot met Pat Legan and
they began dating in 1937; the couple married in 1943 and during
their 61-year union enjoyed raising a family and traveling; and
WHEREAS, Dot served three terms on the board of trustees
for the University of the Incarnate Word, and she and her husband
established a scholarship fund that has helped many students
attend the university; and
WHEREAS, A woman of uncommon grace and generosity, Dot Legan
enriched the lives of all who knew her with her compassion, her
kindness, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;
she was a member of the Castle Hills Garden Club and a life member
of the Castle Hills Women's Club; and
WHEREAS, Her accomplishments in needlework and as a gourmet
cook helped make her a wonderful homemaker; she was a devoted
wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories
that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Dorothy Lehr Legan: her husband, Pat Legan;
her sons, Michael Legan and Gary Legan; her daughters,
Kathryn Kocher, Janet Huffman, Martha Legan, and Carol Jones;
her brother, John Lehr; and her grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
it do so in memory of Dorothy Lehr Legan.
