SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 512
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to join the Alamo Legacy and Missions Association and Texas
Tejano.com, as well as citizens across this state, in recognizing
the month of September 2005 as Tejano Heritage Month in Texas;
and
WHEREAS, Tejanos are descendants of the Spanish and
Mexican families who settled Texas in the early 1700s and 1800s
and made a tremendous impact on the development of the state
through their contributions in architecture, government,
religion, and ranching; and
WHEREAS, Alamo Legacy and Missions Association, a living
history organization, and Texas Tejano.com, a publishing and
history research firm based in San Antonio, have slated a month's
worth of activities designed to educate the public about the
lives of early Tejano pioneers; events will include lectures,
exhibits, films, workshops, history reenactments, a Fiesta de
Tejanos, and an exhibit titled "A Tejano Son of Texas," which
will travel to several elementary and middle schools; and
WHEREAS, The efforts of the men and women of the association
and Texas Tejano.com are a significant contribution to the
education of Texans about the achievements of an important part
of our state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby recognize September 2005 as Tejano
Heritage Month in Texas and commend the Alamo Legacy and Missions
Association and Texas Tejano.com for their important work.
