SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 523
In Memory
of
Eula Mae Scott
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Eula Mae Scott, who
died February 22, 2005, at the age of 95; and
WHEREAS, Eula Mae Glenn was born on January 26, 1910, in
Palo Pinto County to Jesse Evans Glenn and Obedience Nolan Glenn;
when Eula Mae was barely 12 years old, she helped her father herd
cattle; she also drove her brother and sister to school in a
buggy; and
WHEREAS, Her father worked for T&P Railroad and the family
moved often; Eula Mae graduated as the 1928 class valedictorian
in Gentry, Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, After attending Northeastern Normal College in
Oklahoma for a year, she taught primarily Native American
students in Muskogee, Oklahoma, for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Eula Mae moved to Fort Worth in 1943 and was
employed with the Texas Electric Company, where she rose to the
position of executive secretary; there she met engineer
Charles B. Scott, who would become her husband; and
WHEREAS, Eula Mae and Charles were married in 1947; the
couple had two children, Glenn and Nolen, and in 1950 they moved
to New York; after Charles was diagnosed with terminal heart
disease, the family returned to Fort Worth; he died in 1958, and
Eula Mae raised their two children on her own; when she was 55,
she returned to work as a bookkeeper; and
WHEREAS, In 1977, she joined her son and daughter in
Austin; she worked until the age of 77 for the city utility
department; she was a lifelong Democrat and cast her last vote
in November, 2004, at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, Eula Mae Scott cherished her family and she devoted
the last 20 years of her life to caring for her grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she
leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
family of Eula Mae Scott: her daughter, Glenn; her son, Nolen;
her sister, Ruby Faye Parker; and her four grandchildren, Tillie,
Nevan, Aubrey, and Alice; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Eula Mae Scott.
