SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 524
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize D'Lisa Simmons, who is the first woman to serve as
district governor of Rotary District 5890; and
WHEREAS, Rotary District 5890 encompasses nine counties in
Southeast Texas and is comprised of 56 Rotary Clubs with 3,600
members who continue to embrace the spirit, enthusiasm, and
principles of Rotary International, one of the world's premier
service organizations; and
WHEREAS, D'Lisa was born and raised in Texas City; she
earned a law degree from South Texas College of Law and is a
practicing attorney in Houston; and
WHEREAS, During D'Lisa's year as district governor, Rotary
Clubs in Houston raised over $100,000 to assist Saint Luke's
Episcopal Health Charities to operate a mobile medical van in
Houston's East End for two years and raised more than $100,000 to
beautify Hermann Park; in addition, grants were obtained from
Rotary International to fund over 3,000 immunizations for
children in the district; and
WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the district has continued
to assist a school in Chinandega, Nicaragua, in providing
underprivileged children with food, shelter, and education; and
WHEREAS, D'Lisa has demonstrated exceptional talent and
dedication during her tenure as district governor of District
5890, and as Rotary International celebrates its 100th
anniversary this year, it is an excellent opportunity to
recognize one who exemplifies its motto, "Service Above Self";
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend D'Lisa Simmons for her
exemplary leadership and her many accomplishments as district
governor of Rotary District 5890; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
