SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 526

grand opening of the Hotel Fredonia in Nacogdoches, and this
memorable milestone offers a fitting opportunity to reflect on
the significance of this beloved local institution; and
WHEREAS, The strong bonds between the Fredonia and
Nacogdoches were forged from its earliest beginnings, as the
project was originally conceived by a committee of 75 Nacogdoches
residents, and the subsequent fund-raising was very much a
collective effort on the part of the community; and
WHEREAS, The hotel's gala opening took place on
April 1, 1955, and attracted some 6,000 guests; throughout the
ensuing years, the Fredonia has secured its stature as an
indispensable landmark, serving both as a welcome respite for
weary travelers and as a hub of community activity; and
WHEREAS, A hotel is often the first impression made on
visitors to a city, and since its founding the Hotel Fredonia has
ably filled this role while instilling civic spirit and a sense
of pride in the citizens of Nacogdoches; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the
opening of the Hotel Fredonia and extend to all those associated
with this venerable Texas institution sincere best wishes for
continued success.
