SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 529
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Wayne Thornton for being named president of the
Sun Bowl Association for 2005–2006; and
	WHEREAS, The Sun Bowl has a long and storied history and
is second only to the Rose Bowl in longevity; Wayne is the 70th 
president of the Sun Bowl Association and has served the 
organization for 13 years in many different capacities; he has 
chaired the basketball committee and served as secretary and 
executive vice–president; and
	WHEREAS, He has also been actively involved in several 
youth camps run by the association, including Price's Give'Em 
Five Basketball Skills Camp, Helen of Troy Charm Camp, and Wells 
Fargo Cheerleading Camp; and
	WHEREAS, Wayne graduated from The University of Texas at
El Paso and later served the university as head coach for the 
women's basketball team; Wayne is currently the special 
promotions coordinator at the El Paso Parks and Recreation 
Department; and
	WHEREAS, His contributions to the El Paso sports scene also 
include hosting the television program El Paso Sports Showcase
and promoting National Girls and Women Day in Sports each 
February; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Wayne Thornton for his many 
contributions to El Paso and congratulate him for being named 
president of the Sun Bowl Association; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
