SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 545
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Community Action Agencies of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Created when the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964
was signed into law, Community Action Agencies have a 40-year
history of promoting self-sufficiency for people of limited
income; and
WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies provide innovative and
cost-effective programs to individuals and families to improve
their lives and living conditions; and
WHEREAS, The Community Action Agencies of Texas have forged
working partnerships with other public and private sector
organizations and coalitions, including the American Red Cross,
local chambers of commerce, educational institutions, faith-based
organizations, community health agencies, and commercial housing
developers; and
WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies are governed by a
tripartite board that is representative of the entire community,
including locally elected officials, business organizations, and
citizens of limited income; and
WHEREAS, By offering support to citizens in need,
Community Action Agencies are a valuable tool for waging war on
poverty and for helping all citizens to live with dignity and
hope; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the Community Action Agencies
of Texas on their many contributions to the citizens of our
state; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the Texas Association of Community Action Agencies as an
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
