SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 546
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Joseph Lewright of Austin for being honored with a
Daily Point of Light Award from the Points of Light Foundation; and
WHEREAS, The Daily Point of Light Award honors individuals
and volunteer groups that have made a commitment to connect
Americans through service to help meet critical needs in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, In 2002, Joe began participating in Akzo Nobel's
National Benevolence Program and persuaded Ellis and Salazar
Body Shop to participate too; the program encourages a body shop
to repair a damaged vehicle and donate it to a needy family; Joe
expanded on the idea by asking vendors to donate or discount the
automobile parts; and
WHEREAS, Joe also worked with Head Start's Child, Incorporated,
to find a deserving family to receive the vehicle; he included the
family's children in the presentation ceremony by giving Christmas
presents to them as well; and
WHEREAS, Joe challenged other establishments to donate
their efforts and convinced five more body shops in Austin to
take part in this exemplary program; his generous heart and
tireless efforts have enriched many lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Joe Lewright for his tireless
efforts for the betterment of his community and congratulate him
for being selected for a Daily Point of Light Award; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
