SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 550
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Travis B. Bryan, Jr., who is being honored by the Texas Bankers Association at its annual convention on May 13, 2005; and WHEREAS, During a luncheon at its annual convention, the Texas Bankers Association recognizes bankers who have devoted 50 or more years of service to the banking industry; and WHEREAS, Travis B. Bryan, Jr., is senior chairman of the board of directors of The First National Bank of Bryan-College Station; he began working for the bank after serving in the United States Navy during World War II and graduating from the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas in 1949; and WHEREAS, In 1964, he was elected chairman of the board, president, and chief executive officer of the bank, and he served in this role until 1992; under his leadership, the bank's assets grew from $7 million to $163 million, and it was the only bank of substantial size in Bryan-College Station to survive the economic recession of the 1980s; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan is deeply involved with philanthropic activities, and he has held leadership roles in many community organizations; he has served as president of the chamber of commerce, as chairman of United Way, as president of the Bryan School Board, and as president of the 12th Man Foundation of Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Bryan married Norma Bess Norman, and on June 1, 2005, they will have been married for 59 years; they have two extraordinary sons, Travis B. Bryan III and Timothy N. Bryan, five wonderful grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; and WHEREAS, A much-admired leader in the banking industry, Travis Bryan is an exemplary citizen, and his many contributions to Bryan-College Station and to the banking industry merit legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend Travis B. Bryan, Jr., on his exceptional achievements and congratulate him on earning recognition by the Texas Bankers Association; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
